Every Child Matters

Every Child Matters

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.

Today, I wear my orange shirt to honour the children who never came home, the survivors, their families, and their communities.

It is a day to remember. A day to listen. A day to acknowledge the painful history of residential schools and the lasting impact they carry.

Reconciliation is not a single day of reflection — it is an ongoing responsibility. My hope is that each of us continues to learn, to honour, and to walk toward truth with compassion.

Sip & Reflect: Slowing Down at 50

Turning 50 didn’t feel like a finish line or a crisis. It felt like a pause. For the first time in years, I noticed I didn’t want to keep rushing from one thing to the next.

Most of my life has been lived in fast-forward — juggling work, family, and the weight of “what’s next.” But somewhere along the way, I started to realize that rushing wasn’t helping me live more fully. It was only making me tired.

Now I try to look for the small pauses. A quiet cup of tea before the day begins. Letting conversations run a little longer. Taking a slower road home when there isn’t any real hurry. These moments don’t solve everything, but they make life gentler.

Tea has been a teacher in this. If you rush it, the flavor is flat. If you let it steep, it opens up into something richer. I think life works the same way.

Slowing down doesn’t mean falling behind. It means finally being present.
